Cambodia Calls for Carbon Investment to Enhance Environmental Health

Phnom Penh, March 28, 2024 - The Ministry of Environment has issued a call for increased carbon investment in Cambodia, aiming to improve the cleanliness of soil, water, and air across the nation.

Minister Eang Sophalleth addressed this appeal during a meeting with Hoang Anh Dung, CEO of Vietnam's Investment and Trading Consulting Company Limited (INTRACO Holding), in Phnom Penh on March 26. The Minister emphasized Cambodia's readiness to share dividends with stakeholders engaged in carbon trading, including companies from Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Hoang Anh Dung shared the company’s plans to align with the Ministry's environmental goals by providing water filters and eco-friendly stoves to underprivileged communities in remote areas. This initiative is expected to promote the use of clean energy and reduce emissions, contributing to global efforts against climate warming.

Minister Sophalleth welcomed INTRACO Holding’s proposal and outlined the Ministry's ambitious strategy to increase carbon trade by 41.7 percent by 2030. This goal aligns with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, reflecting Cambodia's commitment to international climate change mitigation efforts.

The collaboration highlights the growing importance of cross-border partnerships in addressing environmental challenges and underscores Cambodia’s proactive stance in contributing to global environmental health through sustainable practices.
